Sands China Teams Getting Ready for Dragon Boat Races

Benediction ceremony at Nam Wan Lake

(Macao, May 19, 2016) – With Macao’s annual dragon boat races coming up in June, Sands China Ltd. held benediction ceremonies for its dragon boat teams Thursday at Nam Wan Lake Nautical Centre.

Four teams from Sands China will compete in this year’s races – one team each in the categories of male standard dragon boat, male small dragon boat, female standard dragon boat, and female small dragon boat.

“Sands China looks forward to the dragon boat races every year, and to the energy and enthusiasm of our dragon boat teams and their supporters,” said Antonio Ramirez, senior vice president of human resources for Sands China Ltd. “Besides being a fun event to watch and participate in, it’s a great way to bring our team members together in a spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition. And although we’ve had all-female teams in the small dragon boat races before, this is our first year with an all-female team in the standard dragon boat category, so we’re especially proud of that.”

Thursday’s benediction ceremony was attended by Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd.; Ramirez; Winnie Wong, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs; Amy Lee, vice president of human resources; Ben Leong, vice president and general manager for Sands Macao; and Danny Tang, vice president of operations for The Londoner Macao. They offered words of encouragement and support to the dragon boat team members, and dotted the eyes of the dragon boats – a gesture to symbolically awaken the spirit of the boats. The executives also presented red packets to the dragon boat team members for good luck in the upcoming races, which begin June 4 at Nam Wan Lake.
