Sands China Team Members Attend Seminar on the Spirit of NPC and CPPCC and One Country, Two Systems
(Macao, March 31, 2021) – Sands China Ltd. hosted a seminar for team members and local youth Wednesday at The Parisian® Macao, about the recent sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and the One Country, Two Systems policy.
Its aim was to help participants develop an in-depth understanding of the spirit of the NPC and CPPCC sessions, the National 14th Five-Year Plan, and the implementation of One Country, Two Systems in Macao.
Entitled the Sands China Distinguished Speaker Forum Series – the Spirit of NPC and CPPCC, and the Sustained Implementation of 'One Country, Two Systems' in Macao, the seminar was led by three distinguished guests: Ng Sio Lai, member of the NPC and director of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao; Lok Po, member of the NPC and director of Macao Daily News; and Ng Chi Leong, member of the CPPCC and chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation.
Nearly 460 people attended the seminar, including Sands China management and youth from the community. A live feed was also provided at the back-of-house areas of Sands China's properties, offering team members a way to participate in the event remotely.
For Wednesday's event, Sands China invited the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the Macao SAR (DICJ) as an adviser and as a supporting entity, respectively. The seminar was attended and advised by Zuo Xianghua, deputy director general of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR.
In her remarks, Ng Sio Lai highlighted some key points of the National 14th Five-Year Plan, and suggested that mainland authorities restore the e-visa process for the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) as soon as possible to boost Macao's economic recovery.
Meanwhile, Lok Po suggested that Macao deepen its cooperation with the mainland, especially in the Greater Bay Area and Hengqin, in order to facilitate economic diversification.
Ng Chi Leong suggested that Macao develop a systematic approach with regard to education, selection and training to cultivate the spirit of "Loving the Motherland and Loving Macao." He also encouraged local youth to equip themselves and enhance their competitiveness to embrace the opportunities of the Greater Bay Area, so as to integrate into national development.
The seminar was facilitated by Sands China Ltd. President Dr. Wilfred Wong, who remarked: "The destinies of our nation and Macao are tied together. Therefore, it is important that our team members fully understand key topics such as the strategic significance of the National 14th Five-Year Plan for Macao's integration into the development of the country. With the steady and sustained implementation of One Country, Two Systems in Macao, we are confident that Macao will build on its own advantages. We hope the insights shared by today's distinguished speakers can help team members contribute to national development while propelling the city's economic diversification."
