Sands China Does Annual Spring Cleaning with Macao Elderly

(Macao, Jan. 16, 2017) – The Sands China Care Ambassador programme sent a group of over 70 volunteers to Seac Pai Van public housing in Coloane Sunday morning, where they spent time with local live-alone elderly for an annual spring cleaning activity.

This year is the eighth in a row the Care Ambassadors are assisting Macao’s live-alone elderly to prepare for the Chinese New Year with an annual spring cleaning. The volunteers paid a visit to 50 households – double the previous year – taking cleaning supplies along with them so they could sweep, mop and vacuum the homes, chatting with the residents while helping them prepare for the upcoming Year of the Rooster.

As is their tradition, the Care Ambassadors also brought Chinese New Year gift packs for the residents, which contain useful staples like oil, grain and noodles, and a hygiene kit recently put together by Sands China team members. Each hygiene kit includes soap, shampoo, conditioner, a toothbrush and toothpaste. The yearly event is one of the many ways Sands China’s team of volunteers expresses its care and spreads warmth to vulnerable and less-advantaged groups in the Macao community.

The elderly residents visited by the Care Ambassadors are all users of the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme, which is operated by The General Union for Neighbourhood Associations. Since 2010, Sands China Ltd. has been a supporter of the programme, and has contributed more than MOP 1.2 million to date to the programme, benefitting more than 1,800 elderly.

The Sands China Care Ambassador programme aims to give Sands China employees an opportunity to serve the local community by organising community activities and initiatives that work toward creating a better Macao. With a current membership of more than 1,500 volunteers from across all Sands China properties – Sands® Macao, The Venetian® Macao, The Plaza™ Macao, Sands® Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao – the Sands China Care Ambassadors have contributed more than 10,000 hours of voluntary community service in over 100 activities since the programme was founded in August 2009. Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like its annual spring cleaning activity as central to its commitment toward social causes and community involvement.
