(Macao, Oct. 28, 2024) – A group of over 200 team members and community group members enjoyed a private screening of the film “Little Boyhood” at Cinema Alegria Sept. 26, organised by Sands China as part of the company’s ongoing professionalism education efforts, and in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland. The audience comprised Sands China team members and retired team members in the company’s Golden Age Programme and their families, along with interns from various colleges and universities and members of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions and the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao.
It is the fifth time that Sands China has organised such a movie appreciation activity for its team members, aimed at inspiring patriotism, strengthening their understanding of China’s history and culture, and promoting traditional Chinese values. Set in Shanxi province’s Qikou Town, “Little Boyhood” examines the rural areas of Lüliang Mountain during the early stages of Chinese economic reform. It tells stories of growth of the area’s rural children and teenagers and their development of an energetic spirit of nationalism.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “With the country celebrating the 75th anniversary of its founding this year, Sands China was very pleased to organise this screening of ‘Little Boyhood’ right before National Day, and we hope the event serves to strengthen team members’ national pride. The spirit of the nation can be deeply felt through this moving patriotic film, which features distinctive geographic characteristics, making it popular with audiences. As part of the company’s ongoing professionalism education efforts, we hope that through this and other film screenings, team members can better understand and be inspired by our nation’s history, culture and traditions, enhancing their sense of patriotism.”
One of the team members who attended said: “The movie uses scenes of historical sites as its background, and the vivid story shows us how the torch of patriotism is being passed down to the next generation. I’d like to thank the company for providing us a such meaningful experience and I hope we can enjoy more opportunities like this in the future.”
In celebration of this year’s dual anniversaries, Sands China has organised a series of professionalism education activities for team members to strengthen their ties to the motherland and help them integrate into overall national development, while enhancing their professionalism and competitiveness. In addition to the screening of “Little Boyhood,” these activities have included watching the show Poetic Dance Drama: “The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting” – “A Panorama of Mountains and Rivers” and taking a special tour of the exhibition Echoes of a Golden Age: Macro Events through the Micro Visions of Macao’s Legendary Contemporary Artists.
