Sands China Supports Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop for 13th Straight Year

Sands Cares Ambassadors help distribute food hampers

Macao, Feb. 11, 2025–
Sands China Ltd. donated MOP 300,000 to Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop Saturday, marking the 13th consecutive year of the initiative, which provides support for the charitable organisation’s operating expenses. Additionally, around 40 Sands Cares Ambassadors volunteered at Macau Holy House of Mercy's Welfare Shop Saturday to help distribute more than 370 Chinese New Year food hampers to disadvantaged families served by the Welfare Shop.

In operation since 2013, the Welfare Shop distributes food and essentials to several thousand families facing financial difficulties each month, assisting households in disadvantaged neighbourhoods to meet their living expenses.

The food hampers contain staple items like rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil, toothpaste, shower gel and others. Additionally, Sands China gave Chinese New Year gift packs purchased from Fuhong Society of Macau to each family.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “It is our privilege to work with Macau Holy House of Mercy for 13 consecutive years to support their meaningful food hamper initiative. As a member of the Macao community, it is Sands China’s honour to extend its care and support to the community, especially to society’s vulnerable. Our thanks go to Macau Holy House of Mercy for their continued collaboration and to our Sands Cares Ambassadors for generously giving their time and energy to putting our corporate values into practice time and time again.”

Dr. Wong presented Sands China’s MOP 300,000 donation cheque to António José de Freitas, president of Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Board of Trustees, at the Welfare Shop Saturday. Other guests of honour in attendance were Ricardo das Neves, president of the Supervising Committee of Macau Holy House of Mercy; Gisela Nunes, secretary general of Holy House of Mercy; Ng Sio Lai, president of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau; and Leong Wai Fong, vice president of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions.

Sands China’s support to Macau Holy House of Mercy is part of the company’s commitment toward social causes and community involvement through the Sands Cares
 global corporate citizenship programme.
