Promotes Chinese cultural influence
(Macao, Feb. 22, 2025) – With the Chinese animated film “Ne Zha 2” premiering in Macao Feb. 22, Sands China hosted a special screening for a group of 300 Sands Cares Ambassadors, their families, and friends at Macao’s BONA Cinema Saturday – in appreciation of the volunteers’ unwavering dedication to the local community over the years.
“Ne Zha 2” has made history in the film industry by becoming China’s first film to gross over 10 billion yuan at the box office. The event marked the globally sought-after film’s first screening for volunteers in Macao and was received appreciatively by Sands China’s volunteers and their loved ones. The company organised the screening as a way to bring positive impact to the community while promoting traditional Chinese culture and cultural pride.
Ne Zha, the protagonist of the film, is a deity in Chinese folklore. The popular blockbuster features a myth-inspired story with innovative adaptions in storytelling, meticulously crafted characters, and a blend of Chinese cultural relics and elements. All of these novel arrangements have made the film refreshing and captivating for audiences of all ages.
“Ne Zha 2” took five years to complete, and its production team involved over 4,000 animators from 138 animation companies in mainland China. Their collective efforts have created an impressive showcase of China’s cultural strengths and influences. The film has garnered global popularity since its release, breaking multiple box office records in the process. Significantly, it is the first non-Hollywood film to break into the global box office top 10 for highest-grossing films.
Launched in August 2009, the Sands Cares Ambassador programme was the first volunteer programme established by an integrated resort operator in Macao. Its membership now counts more than 3,600 volunteers from across all Sands China properties, cumulatively contributing over 310,000 hours of volunteer service – demonstrating the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility.
