Sands China and Genyield Construction Win Jinyu Award for the
Second Time

Integrated resort operator and local enterprise recognised for effective collaboration

Macao, July 9, 2025–
Sands China Ltd. and local supplier Genyield Construction Co., Ltd. have won a Jinyu Award, the highest engineering award in China’s building-waterproofing industry, for the second time. The two companies were recognised for effectively working together on a roof enhancement project at The Venetian® Macao, covering an area of about 40,000 square metres – a massive project that started in 2021 and was completed in 2024 without any interruption to the round-the-clock operation of the integrated resort.

The Jinyu Award is a scientific and technological award for the nationwide building-waterproofing industry organised by the China National Building Waterproof Association (CWA) and registered with the National Office for Science and Technology Awards. The CWA and “China Building Waterproofing” magazine jointly evaluate candidate enterprises in order to honour the best of the best in the industry.

Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd., said: “Our five integrated resorts operate around the clock to serve our guests, and facility maintenance is not only crucial for daily operational efficiency, but also a key factor in shaping the experience of global travellers. We are thrilled that Sands China and its long-term local SME partner, Genyield Construction are the joint recipients of the highly respected Jinyu Award. This prestigious accolade highlights the outstanding capabilities and growth potential of Macao’s SMEs, and reflects the professionalism of our facility management team. In selecting our partners, we consistently uphold our business philosophy of growing and supporting SMEs, providing opportunities to local contractors to complete extremely large-scale, high-level projects, where their expertise can shine. This award-winning project stood out in a national competition, delivering remarkable results and fostering a win-win scenario for all parties involved. It serves as yet another testament to Sands China’s steadfast commitment to supporting the development of SMEs.”

For their roofing project at The Venetian Macao, Sands China and Genyield Construction earned the “2024 Building Waterproofing Industry Science and Technology Award – Engineering Technology Award (Jinyu Award) – Gold Award.” In order to win the award, both parties needed to work closely together; their collaboration to make the project successful was rated very high.

Danny Cheung, Genyield’s managing director, said: “The renovation project at The Venetian Macao was completed while ensuring uninterrupted operations in the commercial spaces beneath, which was a highly complex and challenging endeavour. The ultimate success was a collaborative effort of multiple project stakeholders, including hotel operations, mall operations, transportation, and facilities – each playing a critical role in achieving the desired outcome. It was vital to the project’s success that the project team work very closely with our contractor team over the three-year project duration. This ensured smooth progress in construction while maintaining seamless commercial flow.”

Another element of the project’s success was that it chose a local brand whose product features new coating technology of the latest international standards. This resulted in UV reflection on the roof, which lowers the indoor temperature and decreases energy costs, thereby improving the environmental sustainability of the building. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Sands China forged a robust partnership with the local SME supplier to ensure construction progress and accurate communications, leveraging on the advantages of procuring locally.

The primary objective of the Jinyu Award is to elevate the construction techniques and quality standards of waterproofing engineering while improving project management proficiency. It serves to encourage enterprises to emphasise technological innovation in waterproofing applications, thereby promoting the sustainable development of this industry. By enhancing corporate innovation and market competitiveness, the initiative ultimately aims to foster the successful completion of more waterproofing projects.

Genyield Construction was established in 1989 and has worked with Sands China over the years on various construction and engineering projects: the bus depot at the west wing of The Venetian Macao, the steel structure of The Parisian® Macao’s Eiffel Tower, the porte cochere at The Londoner Macao®, and a roofing project at Cotai Expo.

Genyield is a two-time winner in the Sands Supplier Excellence Awards, honoured in 2015 and 2022 for its project management. An annual initiative of Las Vegas Sands Corp., the awards acknowledge the cooperation and services of some of Sands’ most noteworthy suppliers worldwide.

Other notable recipients of the Jinyu Award this year include Xi’an Xianyang International Airport, Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport, and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology.
