Jointly organised by Sands China and Asian Sports Development
Exciting extended activities open and free to the public

(Macao, Dec.18, 2025)–
Sands China Ltd. and Asia Sports Development Ltd. are bringing back to Macao the Sands China Asian Youth Elite Fencing League – Macao competition, Dec. 26-28 at Cotai Expo at The Venetian® Macao. This premier stage for Asia’s young fencing talent is helping cultivate the next generation of fencers and is part of Sands China’s continued support of Macao’s vision to become a City of Sports.

In addition to the main competition, this year’s event features a series of exciting extended activities, including 60 food and sports booths, inviting the public to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere free of charge.

First launched in Hong Kong in 2023 to resounding success, the fencing league’s event made its Macao debut last year, attracting over 3,200 spectators. This year, the competition further expands its scale with new categories, including individual events for the U6 age group and team events for the U8 and U12 age groups. These additions encourage broader participation and foster technical exchange among young fencers.

The 2025 competition will welcome a record 1,200 elite youth fencers from across the globe, including the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

As the organiser of this influential youth competition, the Asian Youth Elite Fencing League aims to develop the league into an Asian youth fencing ranking circuit, advancing sports development among young people in the Greater Bay Area while promoting the heritage of fencing. The competition will be staged on international-standard pistes (playing area) certified by the FIE (International Fencing Federation), with FIE referees officiating. Video refereeing systems will be deployed during elimination rounds, ensuring young athletes experience the atmosphere of a world-class competition.

To sustain the excitement and promote sports participation, a variety of extended activities will be held during the league event, including:

  •   “Sands Cares Presents: Community Sharing by Champion Fencers – Lei Sheng & Deng Xiaohao”
    Dec. 27, 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Lei Sheng, men’s foil gold medallist at the London 2012 Olympics, and Deng Xiaohao, double gold medallist in men’s sabre (individual and team) at the 2021 National Games, will share championship insights and professional techniques to elevate fencing standards in Macao.
  •   “ASD Elite Karate League”
    Dec. 26-28, 9:30 a.m.

Thrilling karate competitions will enrich the sporting experience.
  •  60 Food and Sports Booths
Booths offering entertainment, leisure, and culinary delights create a lively and engaging atmosphere for spectators.

To further promote fencing development leading up to the event, the organisers will host the “2025 Sands China Future Champions Fencing Camp” Dec. 21-25. The camp will have world-class coaches and Olympic medallists providing professional training to young fencers aged 9-20, featuring five-time Olympic gold medal coaches Stefano Cerioni and Giovanni Bortolaso in foil, Paris Olympics silver medallist Yoon Jisu, London Olympics gold medallist Oh Eun Seok, and Han Won Lee, head coach of the Dong-Eui University Fencing Team. This rare opportunity will allow young athletes to interact with international fencing elites and sharpen their competitive edge.

The 2025 Sands China Asian Youth Elite Fencing League – Macao event is jointly organised by Sands China and Asia Sports Development Ltd., with full support from the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR government and the Macao Government Tourism Office.
