Sands China Team Members Celebrate International Women’s Day

EmpowHER women’s resource group leads inspiring sharing session

(Macao, March 8, 2026) – Sands China celebrated International Women’s Day with two meaningful initiatives, continuing its annual tradition of recognising the contributions female team members make to the workplace, family and society.

On Friday, Sands China senior management presented ribbon flowers purchased from Macau Special Olympics (MSO) to female team members as a gesture of appreciation, offering the company’s sincere gratitude for their dedication and contributions. ;

To celebrate women’s achievements and to encourage female team members to embrace their full potential, Sands China’s EmpowHER team members organised the EmpowHER Sharing Session at The Venetian® Macao’s Adelson Advanced Education Center Friday, featuring the theme “Empowering Each Other, Achieving the Extraordinary, Breaking Boundaries.” The event spotlighted women’s achievements and encouraged participants to embrace their strengths and unlock their potential. The Sands EmpowHER team member resource group is a global, women-led diversity and inclusion initiative that aims to connect female team members to create opportunities for networking and development on a voluntary basis.

Guest speakers at the sharing session were Macau Special Olympics gold medallist Fong Wai Chon, former Macau Special Olympics International Global Messenger (2015-2019) Selina Ao Ieong, and Devonne Iao, Sands China’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer of resort marketing.

The powerful stories shared by MSO’s Fong highlighted the beginnings of his athletic journey, the mindset required to face both victory and defeat, and how he overcame external labels and misunderstandings. Ao spoke about her belief in daring to try, describing the pivotal turning points that led her onto the international stage, her experience promoting MSO in schools, and her personal journey from beneficiary to advocate through campus outreach. Iao emphasised how selflessly sharing knowledge can empower both teams and individuals, and how global perspectives can help strengthen female participation in the workplace. Together, their voices encouraged every team member to transcend limits, support one another, and cultivate a culture where empowerment drives growth and collective success.

Today, EmpowHER is also hosting a “Love • Understanding • Together • Family Workplace Experience Day,” inviting team members’ children to visit their parents’ workplace and create floral gifts together as an expression of gratitude to parents.

Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd., said: “International Women’s Day is a special occasion to celebrate the strength and achievements of women, and we take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to every female employee. Sands China is dedicated to fostering a warm and inclusive workplace, ensuring that all women can thrive and reach their full potential in a safe and respectful environment. We firmly believe that the growth and dedication of our employees are the foundation of the company's development. Moving forward, we will continue to uphold the spirit of inclusivity and respect, driving continuous progress and growth for our organisation.”

As Macao’s largest private employer, with more than 28,000 team members – half of them women – Sands China remains committed to building and maintaining a respectful and equitable workplace. In advocating for and ensuring women’s rights, the company launched a policy for the prevention of sexual harassment and discrimination in July 2018, a first for Macao, together with a related company-wide training for all team members. The company also provides lactation rooms for mothers in its back-of-house team member areas across its properties and holds a wide array of parent-child activities to promote family harmony. Most recently, the company expanded paid maternity leave from 70 days to 90 days, bolstering its range of support measures for families, which include up to six days of paid Child Care Leave and a Parenthood Support Shift, reinforcing Sands China’s dedication to family-friendly policies and workplace equity.
