Sands Procurement Academy Inaugurated

Training modules target development of local Macao SME suppliers

(Macao, June 19, 2017) – Sands China Ltd. held an inauguration ceremony Monday for the Sands Procurement Academy at the Adelson Advanced Education Center at The Venetian® Macao, co-organised with the Macao Chamber of Commerce.

Part of the company’s F.I.T. programme for local Macao SME suppliers, the Sands Procurement Academy is an initiative to develop suppliers by sharing business knowledge and skills, helping them gain experience and capacity for working with large-scale international customers like Sands China. The academy targets local SME suppliers of the following types: small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), micro-enterprises, Macao young entrepreneurs, and “Made-in-Macao” enterprises.

“Sands China is very pleased to inaugurate the Sands Procurement Academy,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “It represents our company’s ongoing commitment to Macao’s local SME suppliers, and we hope this programme helps strengthen their competitiveness and move them towards greater success.”

The academy is providing tailor-made practical training modules to local SMEs, with the first round being offered every Monday from June 19 to July 24, inclusive. Facilitated by lecturers with various areas of expertise, classes have around 50 participants each, and cover six topics: effective warehouse management, quality assurance, logistics management, procurement process and system overview, procurement contracts, and supplier code of conduct.

Nearly 50 local SME suppliers are currently signed up to attend the six modules. Graduating suppliers receive a certificate upon graduation and will be given preferential procurement under otherwise equal circumstances.

The first training module – on the topic effective warehouse management – was delivered after Monday’s inauguration ceremony. Course content included a discussion of warehouse types, functions and operations; how to improve efficiency; inspection guidelines; and inventory management.

The Sands Procurement Academy supports the third pillar of Sands China’s F.I.T. programme, which is comprised of three pillars: Financial Support, Invitational Matching, and Training and Development. Part of Sands China’s Local Small, Medium and Micro Suppliers Support Programme, F.I.T. aims to continue driving procurement between Sands China and local SME suppliers, targeted at both existing and new local Sands China suppliers.

Sands China’s Local Small, Medium and Micro Suppliers Support Programme is in line with the Macao government’s initiative to “buy local” and demonstrates Sands China’s commitment to supporting local enterprises as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts. It is part of Sands China’s supplier relationship management strategy, which guides the company’s long-standing effort to support local suppliers, whom it views as its strategic partners.
