Sands China Presents Outdoor Sketching Workshop and Wind
Ensemble Performance at Iec Long and Taipa Houses
Showcasing the charm of the company’s revitalisation districts to
promote Macao through the integration of culture and tourism
(Macao, April 24, 2025)– With the Labour Day golden week coming up, Sands China is bringing back its successful Outdoor Sketching Workshop along with an artwork exhibition this April and May at the historic former Iec Long Firecracker Factory and the Taipa Houses where East and West cultures intertwine, followed by a wind ensemble performance during the holiday period. Free to join, this summertime art experience aims to immerse Macao residents in local culture and attract visitors through engaging arts and cultural elements as they enjoy the charm of these two areas in an outdoor setting, injecting more artistic energy and joy into these two century-old Sands China revitalisation areas, in line with the Macao government’s “tourism+” initiative and the latest measure of setting a temporary pedestrian zone in Taipa Old Village.
Experience the Return of the Sketching Workshop – Guided by Renowned Art Masters
Following the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural “Outdoor Sketching Workshop,” Sands China has once again invited four of Macao’s art masters – Lai Ieng, Lio Man Cheong, Lee Tak Seng and Lam Chi Ian – to lead sketching workshops at the historic sites April 27 and May 3, 10 and 17, supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau. Held at the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory and Taipa Houses, the workshops will provide art lovers with an opportunity for artistic exchange with these four renowned artists, who will share their knowledge and insights of sketching.
Set amid the century-old industrial landmark and pleasant wetland landscape, the event aims to encourage local residents and visitors to deeply experience the charm of Macao through sketching, enhancing their art skills while connecting with each other. Participants in each workshop will have the opportunity to showcase their works at the Nostalgic House of the Taipa Houses, further highlighting its value as a “Gallery for All.” Through these works, people are encouraged to appreciate Macao’s landscape from different perspectives, enhancing the artistic atmosphere and fostering community engagement.
A Talent Showcase of Young Musicians – Melodious Wind Music Fills the Air with Joy
Sands China has invited the Macau Band Directors Association to hold a wind ensemble performance May 3-5 at 3:30-4:30 p.m. daily, at the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory Chun Su Mei entrance, bringing a melodious and festive atmosphere to the historical site rich with Macao’s industrial heritage. The event is also providing local young musicians with a valuable opportunity to gain experience and hone their skills through public performances, adding charisma to the “City of Performing Arts.”
Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “The former Iec Long Firecracker Factory represents Macao’s unique industrial history and culture from over 100 years ago, while the Portuguese-style Taipa Houses are a popular spot for visitors from around the world, offering architectural interest among scenic wetland landscapes. Sands China is pleased to witness the evolution of these two locations in recent years, which have become cultural hotspots for both local residents and visitors. With the Labour Day golden week approaching, Sands China is dedicated to leveraging the unique urban oasis atmosphere of our two revitalisation districts by hosting diverse events in partnership with prominent local artists and young musicians, such as the Outdoor Sketching Workshop and the wind ensemble performance, deepening the roots of arts and culture in the local community and the historic areas. We will continue making great efforts in injecting new elements into the districts, strengthening the integration of arts and culture with tourism to further develop Macao’s multicultural charm and artistic vitality.”
