Sands China Team Members Visit Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Relics

Sands China Professionalism Education for Team Members “Treasures of Ancient Shu – Sanxingdui and Jinsha” Tour

(Macao, April 29, 2025) – A group of 100 Sands China team members toured an exceptional cultural relics exhibition in Hengqin April 17, where they admired and learned about a sizeable collection of ancient Chinese cultural treasures dating back 3,000-5,000 years.

Sands China organised the visit to deepen team members’ understanding of Chinese history and culture as part of the company’s long-running professionalism education series of events and activities for team members.

The “Treasures of Ancient Shu – Sanxingdui and Jinsha” exhibition is being held at the Hengqin Cultural and Art Complex in the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. It showcases 163 sets of national treasures from ancient China’s Shu civilization, including bronze, gold and jade artifacts, with some newly unearthed artifacts on public display for the first time. Thirty-six artifacts are classified as first-grade cultural relics.

“Sands China is very pleased to organise this exhibition tour for team members as part of the company’s professionalism education efforts,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd. “The exhibition’s rich display of cultural relics and their accompanying in-depth academic interpretations are a beautiful, thought-provoking and appealing way for our team members to gain a deeper understanding of the historical development of China. Appreciating the artistic charm and significance of these artifacts enhances our understanding of the evolution of Chinese civilization and inspires a great sense of patriotism and pride in our nation.”

The artifacts of the “Treasures of Ancient Shu – Sanxingdui and Jinsha” exhibition are from the two most important archaeological sites of the Shu civilization: Sanxingdui and Jinsha, both located in Sichuan province. The Sanxingdui site in particular has been called one of the “greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.” The variety of priceless relics on display at the exhibition provide a window to the unique cultural and spiritual beliefs of the ancient Shu people while demonstrating their advanced craftsmanship. The techniques used to craft Sanxingdui bronzeware resulted in a level of precision comparable to modern industrial standards.

One of the team members on the tour said: “I didn’t know much about the ancient Shu before seeing this exhibition, but I ended up learning about both the diversity and unity of Chinese culture from the exhibits. It’s amazing to think about how I was just centimetres away from these ancient artifacts that are thousands of years old. It really reminded me of just how significant our history is to society.”

The exhibition’s collection was curated from six major cultural institutions: Sanxingdui Museum, Sichuan Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute, Sichuan Museum, Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum, Chengdu Museum, and Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology.
