Sands China Upholds 19 Years of Community Care Bringing Chinese New Year Blessings to Peng On Tung Elderly Users
Sands Cares Ambassadors continue tradition of love
Celebrating New Year with 200 seniors
(Macao, Feb. 11, 2026) – As the Year of Horse draws close, Sands China launched its annual Sands Cares Spring Celebration with Community series of events, continuing a 19-year tradition of compassion and spreading community care. On Feb. 10, Sands China management, team members and the company’s Sands Cares Ambassadors community volunteers visited and delivered festive gift packs and blessings to 200 elderly users of Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Services, including singles and couples. This year’s initiative, designed to connect communities and promote inclusion, extended beyond Seac Pai Van Public Housing in Coloane to include residents of the Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde, sharing the warmth of the season with even more seniors.
Since 2008, Sands China has partnered with Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Services Centre under the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) to co-organise Chinese New Year visits. During the visits, team members chatted with seniors, checked on their health and living conditions, and assisted with household cleaning, simple repairs and haircuts, their actions embodying the Sands Cares spirit.
Each senior received a gift pack containing cooking oil, rice, noodles, cleaning supplies, and handwritten festive couplets, conveying warm holiday wishes. The gift packs were assembled at February’s “Chinese New Year Festive Kit Build and Calligraphy Writing” event, part of Sands China’s Lunar New Year event series, led by Las Vegas Sands President and Chief Operating Officer Patrick Dumont and Sands China management, who also wrote auspicious fai chun onsite.
In addition, the local non-profit organisation Everyone Stray Dogs Macau also joined the Chinese New Year elderly visits with their animal companions for the first time, strengthening the friendly, inclusive neighbourhood atmosphere.
“As the Chinese New Year draws near, we are delighted to carry forward our tradition of care, said Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd. “Together with 220 Sands Care Ambassadors, we visited the community to share festive blessings with elderly users of the Peng On Tung service, bringing warmth and companionship during this special season. This year, our parent company’s management and our volunteer team prepared 20,000 New Year gift packs filled with food and daily necessities, along with handwritten calligraphy fai chun of the Chinese character Fu (福). Through these heartfelt gestures, we extend Sands’ blessings to the community and reaffirm our emphasis on community service. We are deeply grateful to our long-term partner Peng On Tung and the many community volunteers who, for 19 consecutive years, have supported this annual initiative. Their dedication has allowed the spirit of Sands Cares to truly take root and shine brightly in the community.”
Ng Siu Lai, president of UGAMM, said: “As Sands China’s long-term community partner, Peng On Tung is delighted to participate in its annual Spring Celebration. With compassion in our hearts, we join together to give back to society, delivering festive blessings to the elderly and allowing them to feel the warmth of the community. Since 2008, Sands China has continuously supported UGAMM, fully demonstrating its corporate social responsibility. We are especially grateful for Sands China’s donations for 17 consecutive years since 2010, which have subsidised economically disadvantaged individuals to use the Peng On Tung service and supported the centre’s value-added services. To date, nearly 29,000 elderly residents have benefited from the service. Looking ahead, we will continue to make the community more caring and harmonious, so that every senior can live with dignity and happiness in familiar surroundings.”
In addition to elderly visits, Sands Cares Ambassadors visited the Corner of Portuguese Cuisine at the Fuhong Society of Macau’s Pou Choi Centre earlier in the month to distribute Chinese New Year lunch boxes to underprivileged communities. Each individual also received a handwritten fai chun and an apple to convey wishes of safety and joy, demonstrating Sands China’s care and love for the community.
Since the launch of last year’s “NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week,” the company has distributed 1,000 lunch boxes to disadvantaged Macao individuals and families at the Corner of Portuguese Cuisine.
Operating in Macao for over two decades, Sands China remains steadfast in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility. The company established its Sands Cares Ambassador corporate volunteer programme in August 2009, becoming the first integrated resort operator in Macao to form such a team. It provides team members with a platform to serve the local community, organising and participating in diverse activities that encourage staff to engage in volunteer service and share warmth and care with disadvantaged groups. To date, more than 4,000 team members have participated, contributing over 360,000 cumulative service hours.
The Sands Cares Spring Celebration and other community initiatives are part of the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme. Over the years, the programme has introduced numerous initiatives to give back to society, actively collaborating with local charities and social service organisations to build a better, more harmonious, and inclusive Macao.
