Echoes of a Golden Age: Macro Events through the Micro Visions of Macao's Legendary Contemporary Artists
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, Sands China has invited nine outstanding Macao artists, including Lai Ieng, Lok Hei, Ng Wai Kin, Ung Vai Meng, Lio Man Cheong, Lei Tak Seng, Chan Hin Io, Ao Kuan Kin, and Lam Chi Ian, to jointly present the exhibition "Echoes of a Golden Age: Macro Events through the Micro Visions of Macao's Legendary Contemporary Artists." These nine masters in the local art scene specialize in different disciplines with their extensive experience. In this exhibition featuring over 120 of their visual arts works in different forms, including Chinese ink paintings, oil paintings, watercolors, acrylic paintings, sketches, fineliner drawings, digital illustrations, and photographs, Macao's glorious development, cultural characteristics and public sentiments before and after its reunification are being brought to life and the historical traces will be revisited together with the viewers, thus celebrating Macao's prosperity and patriotism since reunification and uniting the power of Macao people to move forward.

Given their remarkable artistry, all the participating legendary artists in this exhibition have been invited by the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau to design stamps to be issued in the city. Over the past 25 years, the stamps have depicted Macao's architecture and cultural landscapes that feature a fusion of Chinese and Western cultures with their unique perspectives and brush work, which range from local attractions such as the time-honored Ruins of St. Paul's, Taipa Houses and Former Iec Long Firecracker Factory, major historical milestones such as the inauguration of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, to the impressive scenes of iconic events such as the Macau Grand Prix. Some of the works featured in this exhibition are philatelic products and their original artworks, which capture the customs and culture of Macao in small spaces through their micro visions. By looking back at the development of Macao over the past 25 years since its reunification, we hope to give the viewers an overall picture of the city and a glimpse into its future.

The exhibition is organized by Sands China with the support from the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Macao Government Tourism Office, and Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau. With concerted efforts, we are presenting a feast of contemporary art and extending our auspicious best wishes to Macao and our country in the year of dual celebrations.

• Time: 11:00am – 7:00pm
