(Macao, June 21, 2019) – Renowned Chef Lan Minglu has hosted an evening of exceptional cuisine for VIP guests, food and beverage industry leaders, the media and social media influencers at Sands Resorts Macao entitled ‘The Spirit of Sichuan Flavour’ as part of its ongoing celebrity chef series.
The event was the first of three nights between June 20 and 22 during which Chef Lan prepared a variety of superb dishes utilising the finest ingredients available. Guests at the event were also entertained with a traditional Sichuan Bian Lian or ‘face-changing’ performance, an ancient Chinese dramatic art part of the Sichuan opera tradition and a stunning ‘Kung Fu Tea’ long-spout teapot display.
One of the foremost chefs of his generation and an authority on Sichuan cuisine, Chef Lan is credited with developing the next generation of Sichuan cuisine, making it more complex yet lighter and healthier, with an emphasis on seafood and vegetables. He started his career with an apprenticeship under Sichuan master chef and culinary legend Shi Zhengliang, and the founder of Sichuan Lan Ting Shi San Chu Food Management Company and National Lan Minglu Technical Master Workshop.
‘The Spirit of Sichuan Flavour’ was part of a wider series of Sands Resorts Macao culinary promotions with celebrity master chefs entitled ‘Golden Feast’. The series has seen several top names host spectacular dining experiences as part of an ongoing campaign to develop and celebrate Chinese food culture.
Chef Lan’s menu included vegetarian bird’s nest; Sichuan-style Brittany blue lobster, Japanese A5 Wagyu Beef; star garoupa in Yu Shiang sauce, sour and spicy sea cucumber, stir-fried white asparagus and morel mushrooms, and Sichuan dumplings. Dessert was a brown sugar pudding, and the wine pairing included vintage Wu Liang Ye Chinese baijiu.
Also skilled in the preparation of Cantonese, Suzhou, Shandong and Hunan food, Chef Lan has worked as executive chef and food and beverage director at leading hotels and restaurants across China including Sichuan, Shandong, Beijing and Guangzhou.
