Sands China Holding Parent-Child Colouring Contest with SKH

Part of company’s MOP 5 million COVID-19 relief fund

(Macao, Apr. 8, 2020) – Sands China Ltd. and the Sheng Kung Hui Social Service Coordination Office have jointly organised a parent-child colouring contest, aimed at enhancing parent-child interactions and enriching children’s at-home activities – during this time when schools are closed as part of the current coronavirus epidemic prevention period.

The coronavirus-prevention-themed contest is targeted at 300 families who received parent-child picture book gift kits donated by Sands China Ltd. and Sheng Kung Hui in March. The Parent-Child Picture Book Gift Kit Program gave story books, educational parent-child games, and epidemic prevention items to local families. Its goal is to enhance family interactions and parent-child relationships, while conveying values of mutual care and providing meaningful learning opportunities.

The kits benefited around 300 local families who are service users of Sheng Kung Hui’s Social Service Coordination Office, with priority going to single parents, children with special learning needs, and families with special parenting needs.

For the contest, children are encouraged to colour and decorate a Sands Cares colouring page that was included in the kit, featuring an encouraging message on being united in the fight against COVID-19.

“We hope this contest helps give children a meaningful activity to engage in during their time at home during the epidemic prevention period, while reminding us all to remain united in the fight against the coronavirus,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “With this enriching parent-child activity, children are able to use their creativity and talents, and at the same time participate in an activity that encourages positive parent-child interactions, enhances mental and emotional balance, and conveys love and positive energy to the local community. Our company’s gratitude goes to Sheng Kung Hui for their collaboration with us on this worthwhile community initiative.”

Lee Kwok Hoo, service director of the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office, said: “Our thanks goes to Sands China for launching this contest with us and for their continuous support. Energetic and imaginative best describe children, who always remain faithful and plant the seeds of hope in society. We hope to spread love to the community through the children’s little hands of hope, and brighten up all sectors with cheerful colours during the current coronavirus epidemic prevention period. We are pleased to see the parents and children actively engaging in this programme – they are enjoying reading the picture book, and have been producing amazing artwork!”

Finished artwork will be scored according to several criteria: creativity, overall aesthetic, online Facebook votes, and creating something that expresses a theme and conveys positive energy. Participants are also encouraged to insert their own creative artwork or messages related to the theme of fighting against the coronavirus.

Sheng Kung Hui has nominated 20 entries from the 300 submissions received, based on the scoring criteria. Those 20 entries are posted on the Sands Cares Facebook page for public voting online, which ends April 15. Sands China and Sheng Kung Hui will also select 10 winners based on the scoring criteria.

Ten Awards of Merit will be given, with winners receiving a one-night hotel stay with breakfast at Sands Resorts Macao. Another three winners will receive Top Choice Awards based on the results of the online voting, each receiving a MOP 1,000 food and beverage voucher for use at participating Sands Resorts Macao restaurants. In addition, five fortunate online voters will each receive a MOP 500 food and beverage voucher as a lucky draw prize.

Online voting on the Sands Cares Facebook page is taking place April 9 until April 15. Winners will be announced on April 17.

The parent-child colouring contest is part of Sands China’s pledge to donate MOP 5 million toward Macao’s COVID-19 relief effort, and is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship program of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
