Sands Cares Ambassadors Assist Children with Special Educational Needs at Fun Carnival at The Venetian Macao

Nearly 600 invited guests enjoy Special Cares Network Carnival at Cotai Expo

(Macao, Jan. 29, 2019) – Around 60 Sands Cares Ambassadors assisted children with special educational needs and their families at The Venetian® Macao’s Cotai Expo Sunday for an afternoon of fun activities at the Special Cares Network Carnival.

The event is also one in a year-long series of celebratory activities leading up to the 10th anniversary of the Sands Cares Ambassador programme in August 2019, with the theme Spreading Love and Embracing Our Community.

During the event, the ambassadors helped their invited participants from the Macau Special Educational Needs Student Advancement Association – nearly 600 in all – to check-in, stay safe, and enjoy various activities at the carnival, including photo-shooting, getting souvenirs and snacks, and game booths. Game booths were hosted by Caritas Macau, Macau Special Olympics, the Macau Deaf Association, Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office, Secção de Serviço Social da Igreja Metodista de Macau
, and the Macau Special Educational Needs Student Advancement Association. A handicraft workshop was led by the Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped.

“Our association’s children enjoyed this visit so much,” said Crystal Lei, director of the Macau Special Educational Needs Student Advancement Association. “The volunteers from Sands China were so helpful and supportive, and it made our group’s families feel really special and taken care of. Our thanks go to Sands China for supporting our event and giving our families an enjoyable afternoon.”

Sponsored by Sands China Ltd., the Special Cares Network Carnival aims to provide opportunities for children with special educational needs to enjoy a fun outing with their families, while encouraging the strengthening of society’s care for and support of children with special educational needs. The carnival also helps promote the network of nongovernmental organisations in Macao that provide services to children with special educational needs.

Winnie Wong, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs for Venetian Macau Limited, said: “Sands China is continually proud of our Sands Cares Ambassadors. They represent some of the best qualities of our team members – compassion, service-mindedness and professionalism. We are pleased to see them taking care of children and families from the Macau Special Educational Needs Student Advancement Association for this memorable outing, and are glad they continue to place importance on meeting the needs of the community.”

The Sands Cares Ambassador programme was established in August 2009 to give Sands China team members an outlet for serving the local community by organising community activities and initiatives that work toward creating a better Macao. With membership of more than 3,300 volunteers from across all Sands China properties – Sands® Macao, The Venetian Macao, The Plaza® Macao, Sands® Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao – the Sands Cares Ambassadors have contributed 100,000 hours of voluntary community service since the programme’s founding.

Sands China Ltd. considers its support of events like the Special Cares Network Carnival as central to its commitment toward social causes and community involvement; it is one of the many ways the company’s team of volunteers expresses its care and spreads warmth to vulnerable and less-advantaged groups in the Macao community.
